The decision to invest in Google Ads is often motivated by three types of situations in which an eCommerce business finds itself.
A situation in which companies are considering choosing a partner for a Google Ads campaign
- We are starting a new business and looking for solutions that will allow us to attract more buyers. Time is of the essence, so we contact an agency, freelancer, or friend.
- The current agency/freelancer stopped achieving satisfactory results, so we decided to conduct an external audit, which revealed irregularities, and we decided to change the people responsible for running the campaign.
- We have a business in which eCommerce has been recently established, and the pressure to deliver results forces us to choose solutions that will yield results as quickly as possible.
In this post, we will focus on cases 2 and 3, as the first situation requires much more attention and will likely be covered in a separate post.
Before you request a quote
Before we start collecting quotes and offers from agencies, freelancers, and people who know their stuff because they once built a website, it is worth verifying a few important issues and answering a few questions before we decide on the right team to run our campaign in a way that is satisfactory to us.
- Do I have a precisely calculated margin on the products I want to promote?
- Do I have a budget for the campaign?
- Is the purchasing process in my eCommerce built in a way that allows users to navigate it smoothly and make purchases?
- What do I know about my customers?
- Do I have the correct configuration of tags related to the correct collection of data from the Google Ads channel?
- Do I have the time or a person on board who will be responsible for contacting the subcontractor?
- How much time do I give myself to validate whether this channel was a good investment?
Tip: If you have no experience working with data and, from a business perspective, you see advertising expenditure solely as a source of revenue generation, it is worth looking into the multi-channel path in e-commerce and ways in which the conclusions drawn from the data collected by Google Ads can be translated into the effectiveness of other sales-generating channels in your e-commerce business. This will allow you to look at the channel from a broader perspective.
What answers are worth determining?
Of course, there are many more questions and considerations that are worth addressing before choosing an agency, but the basic ones I have listed above will allow you to determine a few fundamental issues, such as:
- What level of profit from the channel will be optimal and, above all, profitable for the business?
- Are there any obstacles in the purchasing process that could cause the marketing budget to be "burned through"?
- How much time and budget do we give ourselves to achieve satisfactory results?
- Do we have the resources on our side to work with the Agency on our campaigns?
Tip: Despite regulations, many eCommerce businesses still do not have Consent Mode 2.0 properly implemented, which significantly affects the quality of data collected in Google Ads. It is a good idea to look into this issue before you hire agencies and launch campaigns.
Summary
When choosing a partner, with the above arrangements in place, we will significantly speed up the valuation process, and it will be easier for the agency to value the activities and prepare a plan based on well-defined expectations.
